SVQ Level 2 (SCQF Level 5)

Course Description

Entry level leading to a Junior Stylist role, after which two to three years of "improving" will lead to a Senior Stylist position.  Option of progressing to SVQ Level 3 City & Guilds qualification after completing Level 2.

Course includes shampooing, conditioning hair, styling and finishing, setting  and dressing, hair colouring, cutting, advising and consulting clients, with options that include perming hair, plaiting and twisting, hair extensions and salon reception duties.

The qualification is competence-based rather than time-served (time frame for successful completion dependent upon own ability, commitment to learn the supporting knowledge base and opportunities to train and practice in the employing salon) but, as a guide, course duration of 21 months for entrants with no significant prior experience.

The course can be delivered as assessment only, for candidates already experienced and competent who simply require certification for their skills and knowledge.

Enrolment is year round and dependent upon employment within a hair salon.

Learning all takes place in your employing salon.  Technical training (learning of practical skills) is delivered by your salon's own experienced stylists or trainers through regular training sessions which, in some salons, takes place one evening every week but is regarded as part of your working week.  Learning the theory (knowledge skills) is mainly through self study and can be text book and paper based or internet based or, a combination of both.

Our experienced and qualified assessors will visit you in your salon regularly to assess your technical competence and to support and assess your knowledge.
